Touch-controlled nightlights, designed with families
LeeLuus are soft touch-sensitive nightlights that help kids sleep better in their own room, co-designed with kids and parents. The project was successfully crowdfunded on Indiegogo and the nightlights were the first product of LeeLuu Labs, the smart textile startup I co-founded.
Client: LeeLuu Labs, Role: Industrial Designer, Team size: 4, 2014-2016.
A Touch-Controlled Interface Made of Fabric
The nightlight has a a textile touch sensor made entirely of fabric. Thanks to this sensor, kids can easily adjust the brightness of the nightlight by patting it on the back.
Co-created with over 100 kids
The co-creation process of LeeLuu Nightlights involved over 100 kids and their parents for over two years. This work helped us design the interactions, the functions and the look-and-feel.
Since I was in charge of User Research and Co-creation at LeeLuu Labs OY I designed and managed this co-creative process.
Successfully Crowdfunded on Indiegogo
In order to fund the manufacturing of the first batch, LeeLuu Nighlights were pre-sold on the crowdfunding platform Indiegogo. It was an “all-or-nothing“ campaign where we had to reach our goal to get any of the money. We succeeded in reaching the goal and raised 61 000 EUR (≈ 0.5 million SEK).
The campaign was covered in e.g. FastCompany Design, Mental Floss and Core 77.
